Bringing the Script to Life

This 12-session course, led by experienced instructor Amy Marcs, offers a unique opportunity to begin with a table reading and culminate in a live performance. Utilizing Meisner tools along with body and voice work, this course mirrors a professional theater or film production setting. The course emphasizes the importance of script analysis, character development, and scene work. By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of the entire rehearsal process, resulting in a final performance with invited guests.

This course is designed to guide you through the entire rehearsal process of working on a single script, just as you would in a professional theater or film production setting. The focus is on script analysis, character development, and scene work, all culminating in a final performance with different casts.

WHAT WILL I DO

Script Selection

Begin working on a script by a contemporary playwrights such as David Lindsay-Abaire, Tracy Letts, Neil Simon, Paula Vogel or John Patrick Shanley.

Script Analysis

Collaborate with peers to engage in in-depth script analysis and scene study.

Character Development

Explore characters, understanding their motivations, relationships, and emotional arcs.

Group Rehearsals

Participate in group rehearsals to practice and refine your scenes.

Scene Work

Practice blocking, staging, and creating authentic interactions with scene partners.

Performance Preparation

Prepare for a final performance, including invited dress rehearsals, and experience the thrill of live theater.
